Protests in Nigeria on October 1st against rising cost of living coincide with Independence Day. Citizens urge government action.

Thousands of Nigerians are set to take to the streets on October 1st, the country’s 64th Independence Day, to protest against the rising cost of living.

The demonstrations are expected to occur in Abuja, Lagos, and several provincial capitals.

The crisis worsened after President Bola Tinubu removed a decades-old fuel subsidy, which led to a sharp increase in prices of essential goods and fuel.

Citizens are demanding government action to ease financial pressures.
